What Causes A Headache?

Headaches can be one of the most uncomfortable pains we feel throughout our day. It is described as a pain in the head or face that can be defined as pressure, throbbing, constant, sharp, or dull. The most frustrating thing about headaches is that each one is different and needs to be treated in its own way!

Since each headache is different, it is important to understand which type it is before we begin treatment. The different types include,

  • Tension-type headaches (most common)

  • Cervicogenic (starting in the neck) 

  • Migraine 

  • Cluster

  • Dehydration

  • Sinus

  • Medication overuse

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Headaches?

Most headaches begin with some sort of trigger. There are an infinite amount of triggers out there, so it is important for you to note what you were doing before a headache started! Here are a few common triggers for headaches, alcohol (most commonly red wine), certain foods or skipping meals, nicotine, poor sleep or change in sleep schedule, poor posture, change in physical activity habits, coughing, sneezing, or anything causing increased pressure in the head, dehydration, or overhydration. While helping you narrow down the causes of the headache, we will also work on tight muscles and adjust the area of the neck and upper back as warranted. 

What To Expect For Treatment?

  • Chiropractic adjustments to the neck and upper back. 
  • Manual Muscle Therapy to the soft tissue of the neck, jaw, and shoulder areas.
  • Corrective exercises focus on postural muscles to decrease strain on muscles causing headaches.
  • Dynamic/kinesiology tape to help offload muscles to aid relief
