What Causes Hip Pain?
The hip is comprised of a "ball-and-socket" joint, which means it is one of the most mobile joints in the human body. The issue is when the muscles surrounding the hip joint don't work together, pain begins to creep in. Our hips like movement, but a lot of our daily lives are spent sitting. Sitting for long periods of time tightens up the front of our hips, leading to a tight or stretched feeling when we stand up. Not only are our hips muscles tight, but the butt muscles that help us stand tall also aren't able to function properly.
Hip pain is mainly located in 3 areas. There is front or anterior hip pain that is mainly due to muscles involving hip flexion or in the groin area. There is side or lateral hip pain which is mainly due to muscles involved with hip stability. The last area is in the back of the hip or posterior hip pain which is mainly due to muscles involved with hip extension.
