What Causes Sciatica?

When someone thinks of low back pain, they often associate it with sciatica. Although they could be related, this is not always the case! Sciatica is defined as pain, numbness, or tingling that travels along the sciatic nerve, according to the Mayo Clinic. The nerve is found at the end of the lower back and travels all the way down the leg to the foot.

Most often associated with a herniated, or bulging disc, sciatica is present when the nerve is irritated anywhere along its path. This means it could be irritated by a muscle, compressed in joint spaces, or has been stretched during an awkward movement. Understanding how the sciatic nerve is being irritated and why it is happening is our goal at Kinach Chiropractic to get to the root cause of your sciatic pain and not get stuck chasing the symptoms.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Sciatica Pain?

Chiropractic care can help with sciatica pain by addressing the issue causing you to have pain. You could be feeling pain in the butt, back of the leg, in the calf, or even in the foot. You could also have feelings of mild to sharp pain on one side of the body, most commonly explained to be numbness, tingling, or weakness of the affected leg. Pairing where you feel pain and what it feels like helps us diagnose what is causing you to have pain in the first place and guides us to build a tailored treatment plan to get you back to being yourself, without pain!
What To Expect For Treatment?
  • Chiropractic manipulations to the lumbar spine and the pelvis

  • Manual Muscle Therapy to the muscles of the lower back, gluteal muscles, and the leg.

  • Corrective exercises to help regain proper movement in the hips and lower back.
