What Causes Tennis Elbow?

Also known as Lateral Epicondylitis, it is when someone feels pain in the outside part of their elbow. It occurs when the forearm muscles are overused, causing tendon inflammation and pain. How do they get overused? This happens with repetitive motions that cause wrist extensions, like playing tennis or pickleball. Despite the name, athletes aren't the only ones getting tennis elbow. Multiple labor jobs can cause tennis elbows such as painters, plumbers, carpenters, and butchers.

Some common symptoms of Tennis Elbow are:

  • Pain with shaking hands or gripping an object

  • Pain with turning a doorknob

  • Pain with holding a cup

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Tennis Elbow?

Chiropractic care is helpful when dealing with tennis elbow because it is often due to an overuse injury. We focus on treatment modalities that promote muscle relaxation and repair, build tissue reliance and capacity to handle your activities, and teach proper biomechanics to help reduce injuries in the future.

What To Expect For Treatment?

  • Chiropractic adjustments to the elbow, wrist, shoulder, and neck if warranted
  • Manual Muscle Therapy to the overused forearm muscles to aid in muscle relaxation
  • Corrective exercises to the forearm muscles to increase the strength of overused muscles
  • Dynamic/Kinesiology tape to help offload the overused muscles of the forearm
