What Causes TMJ Pain?
The Temporomandibular joint (TMJ for short) is your jaw joint. It is what allows you to open wide to take a bite of your burger and chew your food. When it starts to misbehave, it can cause you pain while eating, talking, or even sleeping! This joint is controlled by a number of muscles that are located on the head and inside the mouth. When some of these muscles get tight, pain is often the result! Dr. Andrew has extensive knowledge of the jaw joint from his interest in oral health passed down by his father, who is a dentist back in Canada.
When tightness takes over, you can start feeling like there is pain in the jaw area and even feel tenderness or fullness in the ear. There can be clicking and pain with chewing food and when it gets really bad the jaw can be completely locked either open or closed!
How Can Chiropractic Care Help TMJ Disorders?
Since most TMJ problems revolve around tight muscles, chiropractic care is very helpful in decreasing pain associated with TMJ disorders! At Kinach Chiropractic, we focus on loosening the muscles of the neck, face, and jaw causing poor movement. If you notice that you are grinding your teeth at night, a referral to your dentist might be needed.
